Maui is the island which still reigns supreme as the most raw vegan-friendly, thriving island paradise in the USA. The farmers markets feature barefoot coconut tree climbers cracking fresh nuts while organic farmers offer paninis (wild, native, volcano-slope-growing pear-size cactus fruits that are far tastier than their related continental prickly pears), tamarillos (imagine a tomato marrying a guava), lilikoi (passion fruit), a creamy array of enormous avocados, tree-ripe papayas, Kula strawberries, coconut kefir, volcano- mineral-rich arugula, kales, chards, and gorgeous bouquets of dark green leafies sprinkled with edible flowers among other anomolies so rare and exotic that even the open-minded farmers do not know their names.
Moreover, the quality of life for anyone intrigued with what I teach, “Living The Godzillionaire Lifestyle”, is still exceptional here on Maui. Happy: Robert, When was the Conscious Life Expo founded?
Robert: The first expo was in February 2003 and it was originally called the Conscious Living Expo.
Happy: What is the focus these days, a decade later?
Richard: This year’s theme is “Living In Transformation”. What is unique about these times is that of our the areas of interest are transforming before us. No matter where we are, it’s happening, and we are in the middle of the action.
Happy: Which areas are most exciting this year?
Richard: There are so many. I love learning about all of the many topics.
Happy: For example?
Richard: I like all of the dozens of speakers. Greg Braden, Eric Pearl, Dannion Brinkley are of course popular choices. Plus, you, Happy, are going to be Certifiying Blissologists, a first for the Conscious Life Expo. There will fascinating panels from UFOs to Hands On Healing, from Toxicity to Raw Vegan Foods.
Happy: This year for the first time you are offering a Raw Vegan Panel. What inspired you to do this?
Richard: The Raw Panel was my associate Diana Maxwell’s idea. I don’t know how the idea came to her.
Happy: Last summer, I met Diana at a retreat where I offered a Playshop For Blissologists, and knowing that I headed up the Raw Spirit Festival, Diana called me asking if I would coordinate and moderate a raw vegan panel for the Expo.
Diana: That’s right, Happy, because I feel that the power of eating raw vegan foods goes beyond nutrition. It nourishes and regenerates body, mind and spirit. I’d love to turn more people on to the importance of feeding ourselves delicious, vital, raw vegan food.
Happy: I’m grateful for your invitation, Diana, and excited to have brought together a dynamic panel including Dr. Elizabeth Lambaer, Markus Rothkranz, Rod Rotundi, Dr. Aris La Tham, Mimi Kirk and myself.

Happy: Yes, indeed it is. Now back to Richard, what would you like people to experience and to take away from this year’s Conscious Life Expo gathering?
Richard: A consciousness, an awareness that is more present. There is so much to experience and learn from the 175 vendors too. I see a lot of people transforming, coming together, creating community for a weekend, yet make connections that can last a life time. My dream is that we share in the consciousness of this celebration. I hope it is a peak moment for us all in 2013.

The origins of a new-age, alternative-lifestyle, natural-products “Expo,” can be traced back to the early 1970s and the days of the Whole Earth Catalog, a widely popular alternative mail order catalog. The Whole Earth Company began the first Whole Earth Expo. By 1975, Whole Earth Expo was an established tradition in the counter culture of the time.
Other shows arose concurrently, with the Whole Earth Expo’s success. In 1982, Alan Goldman began producing shows for the National Health Federation in New York. At the same time, Joseph Cotler had founded the Whole Life Times and worked with Alan to produce an Expo in New York for the Whole Life Times – the first Whole Life Expo.
By 1983, Joseph and Alan were doing shows in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. In 1986, Joseph sold the Los Angeles market rights to Paul Andrews. He sold the San Francisco market rights to Ken Kaufman in 1986. Both Ken and Paul proceeded to expand Whole Life Expos into cities across the country, bringing Expo’s new-age ideas to a wider public and helping to establish a nationwide community focused on integrative health and cutting edge ideas.
In 1998, Justin Hilton purchased Whole Life Expo’s nationwide rights from Ken Kaufman. These Expos continued under Justin, and at the end of 1999, he sold the entire company to Ayman Sawaf.
Today, having produced successful Expos since his return years ago, Ken and his committed organization once again are creating a whole new standard in the world of Expos. This year, The New Living Expo brings to you ALL workshops, lectures, panels, and exhibits, for one low general admission price of $ 15 for 1 day, $20 for 2 days, or $25 for three days.
In addition to producing the Expo, Ken is increasingly sought after as a consultant for those who are interested in producing events. Today he lives with his wife Corinna, and he is a dedicated parent to his two teenage daughters.
